Weekend was good. We flew from Hillsboro Airport (KHIO) to Tillamook (KTMK) to see the Air Museum. We landed and then parked the airplane in the wrong parking lot. The museum was at the other end of the airport, so had to taxi all the way around the airport fencing and then onto a side road to get to the museum aircraft parking. Weird experience considering this was the first time we were doing anything like this - parking an airplane like a car at an unfamiliar airport. And then to Siletz Bay (S45) where we walked across the highway (right next to the airport) and had berry pie + ice cream at the Side Door Cafe. That was the best berry pie + ice cream we have ever had. We will surely miss that part of Oregon. We had done the same route a few months back too but this time we stopped at both places and spent some time on the ground. It was a lot of fun. Originally posted at http://vsharma.net/484. |

Morse Code is fun. I don’t update this weblog either when I have nothing to post or when I have too much to post. Analysis paralysis. Well, this time I am in that middle-of-things frame and hence this post. Taking photographs with professional photography equipment is so much fun, thanks to Joy. He is an awesome photographer with a fine skill and passion of wood working and of course an overly passionate bike rider. In fact the Bullet Bangalore group is how I met him in Bangalore sometime around 2001. It is like he is overflowing with passion and energy to do what he really wants to do. This time I asked him to just drill two holes in a piece of wood so that I could mount my cheap straight morse key. I ended up taking a video of how he turned that piece of flat wood to a beautiful glassy polished base for the key. Might post that in a few days. For now, I have an awesome morse key which I can cherish for the coming decades.
Thanks Joy! I’ll pay you back by kicking your ass! |

Maybe I am flowing with the moment but if you have anything to do with systems administration, you would understand this -
Sitting in a rundown datacenter in the heart of downtown New York, santa.vsharma.net served well for 3 years. Ran a load full of high volume domains, survived multiple foss.in beatings, a hard drive failure, ran various flavors of Fedora and was upgraded twice. I spent countless number of hours configuring it remotely to keep it running and regular visits to the datacenter to massage it. And just yesterday, I ran “poweroff” on it so that it can be taken down. Another victim of me moving to the west coast. But then there is the better future -
RIP santa. Hopefully, everyone has copied all their data off you and you will not be missed. Originally posted at http://vsharma.net/480. |
